Things I wish Figma Make did better

I’m sure the team at Figma is already working on most of these, and by the time you read this some might already exist.
But as of March 2026, here’s my honest list as a product designer using Figma Make in real projects:
1️⃣ Building truly from scratch
Right now, I still need to provide initial designs to communicate intention and demonstrate how components should behave.
It’s often faster to design the foundation myself than to correct what Figma Make generates on its own.
I would love to see it interpret product intent without requiring a fully designed starting point.
2️⃣ Deeper design system integration
Yes, it visually mimics components from the design system. But it does not actually use them.
When you download the artboard, elements are not attached to real components or variables. You cannot simply switch states or update tokens. You are essentially rewiring everything manually.
True system level integration would be a game changer.
3️⃣ Direct element editing instead of prompt gymnastics
I caught myself naming layers, something I have been guilty of neglecting for years, just to be able to tell Figma Make exactly what to change.
I wish I could simply select an element in the preview panel and say:
“Change this.”
Instead of:
“Update the tertiary CTA inside the right container in section three.”
4️⃣ Fewer iterations to reach a functional prototype
The functional prototype capability is the most impressive part so far.
It is far more realistic than manually connecting artboards.
But for multipage flows, it is common to go through 100 plus versions.
That means 100 plus prompts, lots of refinements, and a lot of time.
The outcome is worth it, but the process can feel heavy.
5️⃣ Auto Layout instead of deep nested groups
This one hurts.
After finally achieving perfection and wanting to reuse or hand off the work, you realize everything is grouped in complex layers with no Auto Layout and no reusable components.
Which means rebuilding the artboard properly for production or handoff.
Conclusion
Despite all of this, I am genuinely impressed.
Figma Make is not replacing product designers. It is changing how we work.
It is accelerating thinking, prototyping, and experimentation.
And maybe I am secretly glad it is not fully autonomous yet.
Because the craft still matters.
